Congratulations to our CARSTAR Rangers on bringing home Provincial Silver this past weekend!
After an outstanding tournament run, the Rangers have also earned a spot at the 18U AAA Western Championships in British Columbia, taking place August 14-16.
CARSTAR Rangers (6th seed) kicked off the Provincial tournament against the St. Albert Cardinals (4th seed) on Saturday and won 7-1 in convincing fashion, capped off by a complete-game, one-hit, 11-strikeout performance by Kade Strandquist. Carter Skjonsberg went 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Dexton Mohn hit a bases-clearing double to boost the offense.
Game 2 on Saturday saw the Rangers defeat the Parkland Twins (1st seed) 17-4. Kade Strandquist went 2-for-3 with a home run.
The Rangers entered the semifinal on Sunday against the Calgary Cubs and mercy-ruled them 10-0. Strong pitching by Chase Lundstrom (5 IP, 4 H, 0 R) shut down the Cubs. Offensive leaders were Carter Skjonsberg (3-for-4 with 3 RBIs), Seth Clark (2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs), Owen MacDonald (2-for-3 with an RBI), and Kade Strandquist with two doubles.
The Rangers then advanced to the Provincial Championship game against the Parkland Twins (1st seed) and battled hard all game. Ryder Farrer pitched six innings, surrendering just three runs. Key hits by Davis Cadieux (1-for-3 with a two-RBI triple), Seth Clark (two doubles), and Owen MacDonald (three-run home run) gave the Rangers a 6-3 lead heading into the final inning.
Parkland fought back with some timely hitting to force extra innings, where the Twins capitalized and scored the walk-off run.
The Rangers had an outstanding showing at the Provincial Championship, working their way from the final seed all the way to the championship game. It was a tough loss, but there is a lot to be proud of as they wrap up the season.
