Role of Coaches
The Coach can have tremendous influence on our athletes. The Coach needs to be an effective leader, teacher and organizer who has a genuine concern for the athletes' total well being. The Coach's impact on the players' overall learning experience and enjoyment is significant. While the Coach must earn the respect of the Players and Parents, the Coach must be given the latitude to apply principles and approaches in order to gain their respect. The following is an outline of the role of a Coach in the RDMBA:
As a Leader
As a Teacher
- Teach the necessary baseball skills
- Teach skills in proper sequence and progression
- Teach skills using understandable language
- Realize that players differ in their readiness to learn a skill
- Realize that players learn skills at different rates
- Teach more than just baseball skills
- Players will receive adequate explanation and understanding from the Coach regarding strengths, weaknesses and positioning for optimal skill development and team success
As an Organizer
- Plan effective practices
- Select effective assistant coaches
- Invite parents to get involved if required
