2024 Season

2024 Umpire Director: Susie Saunders.   All inquiries may be directed to umpire@reddeerminorbaseball.com

If your game is cancelled or rained out, please email the Umpire Director to avoid having an umpire show up to the diamond.  If your game is rescheduled, it is up to the team to let the Umpire Director know of the new day/time of the game. 

If a game starts, then the umpire gets paid for umpiring the full rate.  See Umpire Fees for more information.

Responsibilities of the Umpire Director

 1)     Organize Umpire Clinic  

a.      Contact Baseball Alberta Umpire Coordinator

b.     Notify umpires, local Associations and request a clinic

c.      Book location

d.     Be at clinic the first morning for registration and fee collection (do not need to be there all day)

e.      Make sure fees cover all costs

f.      Give money to RBMBA treasurer

2)     Contact Umpires for the Rec Program (House League)  

a.      Minimum one umpire is needed per diamond   

b.     Get game schedule from Rec Program coordinator

c.     Co-ordinate umpires

3)     Organize Umpires Payment Schedule  

a.      Bi-weekly, monthly, etc.

b.     Acquire and forward the Umpire's addresses to the treasurer so he/she can send them payment

c.      Keep track of how many games each Umpire completes and advise the treasurer

d.     Umpires also get compensated for the games they showed up for but did not umpire (rain out, not enough players, etc.)

4)     Umpires for Non League Games  

a.      Secure Umpires, by request of the Coaches for non-regularly scheduled games

5)    Contact Coaches Prior to Game if no Umpires are Available

6)     Maintain a Current List of Umpires  

a.      Available certified umpires should be contacted first

b.     A back-up list of uncertified umpires can be used if necessary

c.      List of non-certified umpires should be kept current as well

 
7)     Timeline  

a.      Feb/March - start contacting Umpires and organizing clinics

b.     End of April - start scheduling umpires for Rec Program games

c.      May/June - communicate with Umpires and Coaches as necessary
