Austin grew up in Red Deer, Alberta, where he played all of his minor baseball. Attending St. Joseph’s baseball academy for four years, he received expert coaching and valuable mentorship from Jason Chatwood, Dwayne Lalor and Scott Murray, who helped to refine his skills and deepen his understanding of the game. Following high school graduation, Austin continued his baseball career at Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he completed his Business Management Associate’s Degree. While attending Western Technical College, he worked hard and earned his way to become the starting center fielder for his team. Austin continued to develop his baseball skills and his understanding of what it takes to be a supportive and effective teammate; thanks to the guidance and mentorship he received while playing baseball at the college level.
Once returning to Red Deer, Austin has spent the past two years playing with the Red Deer Riggers and was also a member of their 2023 National Team. His time with the Rigger’s organization has played a key role in his development, both as a player and as a teammate, while providing a fresh perspective of the game.
Austin’s passion for the game of baseball, led to his decision to want to give back to RDMBA and the sport that continues to give him so much. Passing on his knowledge of the game and baseball experiences to the next generation felt like a natural next step, as he will be pursuing his education degree at the University of Alberta in the fall, while playing baseball for the Edmonton Collegiate Hawks.
Austin is excited for the season and looking forward to coaching our 13U AAA Mr. Suds Rangers team this season. He aims to make it both a successful and enjoyable experience for all the players.
We wish Austin and his 13U AAA Mr Suds team a wonderful season!
