Tom has been involved with Central Alberta baseball in various capacities since 2006. He began coaching zone teams and joined Red Deer Minor Baseball (RDMBA) in 2013, coaching his son’s teams through the ranks. His teams have had notable success in provincial play, winning gold with the 11U AA Braves in 2017 and again with the 13U AA Braves in 2022. Additionally, he has been part of two successful teams representing Alberta at the Western Championships: an 11U team in 2017 and 15U team in 2024.
Before moving to Red Deer, Tom was heavily involved in baseball in Southern Alberta. He started his coaching career with the Vauxhall Spurs American Legion program, where he coached for three years from 1998. He then assisted with the Lethbridge Bulls of the Western Major Baseball League until 2005.
In his early years, Tom played multiple sports, which helped him develop a passion for baseball. He attended Spokane Falls Community College for two years and completed his playing career at Eastern Oregon University. During the summers, he played baseball for the Oyen Pronghorns from 1993 to 1995 in the Saskatchewan Major Baseball League, known now as the WCBL. In 1993, he represented Team Alberta at the Canada Summer Games. He also played for the Coaldale Gophers in 1996 and had stints with the Lethbridge Bulls while coaching in Vauxhall.
Tom is very excited to lead these talented athletes on RDMBA's flagship CarStar Rangers team.
