What is the difference between competitive AAA and AA and non-competitive A?

AA/AAA - Baseball is a competitive league that typically runs from the last weekend in April to the first weekend in August. There is a higher level of commitment required for competitive Baseball including additional practices, additional parent support (volunteering), significant travel, over night stays, tournaments (possibly out of province).
A - is a non-competitive league that typically runs from the first week in May until the last week in June. This league is for fun and development, focusing on the fundamentals of the game.

Additional information on divisions can be found under registration information and clicking on the correct division for your players birth year.

Should my player wish to attend evaluations for a AA/AAA team and is not selected will I get a refund ? and do I then need to register for the A non-competitive league?

If your player wishes to be evaluated for a competitive AA/AAA team, you would register them for the AAA or AA level in their assigned division. Should your player not be selected to a competitive team, you will be refunded the difference between the registration fees the evaluation fee. Refunds are done once all evaluations are complete. Your player will then attend A Evaluations and automatically be placed on a team, there is no need to re-register them.

What are A Evaluations

These are evaluations that are simply done in an effort to create even teams within the division so that each team has an equal opportunity for success throughout the season. Every player will be placed on a team regardless of how well they evaluate. This is simply used as a tool for us to evenly divide the players.

Can I request my player be on a team with their friend?

Unfortunately, we no longer accept friend requests. With an association of almost 900 it is simply to difficult for our volunteers to accommodate all requests.

When will the schedules come out?

Teams and schedules will be created in the first few weeks of April and will be posted to the website around the third week of April. An email will be sent to all registrants once this happens advising you where to find the info on our website.

What does a typical season look like for a AA/AAA Team

AA and AAA Teams will practice 2 times a week, possibly more depending on the coach. Games will be played on weekends, this will consist of 2-4 games round robin over the Saturday and Sunday. Season play will begin May 1 and go till end of July/ beginning of August. Once teams are formed after evaluations they may start practicing indoors, this is up to the coach. Players should be prepared for most weekends to be games weekends, whether its league games, make-up games or tournaments.

What are seed fees?

Seed fees are in addition to registration fees and are paid by parents to the team to cover costs incurred by the team for the season. These may include umpires, tournaments, social events, field rentals etc.
Seed fees are only required for our AA/AAA, A provincial and possibly 9U advanced teams. The money will be deposited to the team account and will be overseen by the team Manager and Treasurer.

Pictures

RDMBA will arrange for all teams and players to have their picture taken for the season. This is usually toward the very beginning of the season within the first one or two weeks of play.

What are A provincial teams?

A provincial teams are teams made up of players from our 11U-18U A divisions wanting to extend their season and play in provincials in July. Evaluations will take place mid season for these teams so that they can be formed and start practicing before the regular season ends. There is a higher level of commitment for these teams not just in time but financially as well. There will be two playing weekends at the beginning of July where they will play 2-4 round robin games over the Sat and Sun to determine which Tier the team will be placed in for provincials. Provincials will be played wherever a team has offered to host that is in the same tier as your team. This may not be known until after the second weekend of play. Please see your division information page for more information on the Provincial teams.

What is the CABL?

CABL is short for Central Alberta Baseball League, this league is run by Baseball Alberta where teams will play other teams from around Central Alberta. The Central Alberta Baseball League's schedule is set by Baseball Alberta. Red Deer teams will host as well as travel to other associations, no more than 60mins away. There are typically two games per week possibly more for make up games due to rainouts etc. Days of the week cannot be guaranteed as out of town games are dependant on that associations field availability.

Can my player register in a higher division than what corresponds to their birth year?

RDMBA follows Baseball Canada's guidelines for ages on each division and there are only two exceptions that we can make:
-Female baseball players may play one extra year in each division as an overage player, should they wish to do so
-Second year 9U players may register and evaluate for the 11U AA teams but must move back to 9U if they are not selected to a 11U AA team.

All other players must register in the division that corresponds to their year of their birth.
