Evaluation Policy and Procedure

Effective: March 8th, 2021

______________________________________________________________________________

Policy:

To directly observe and assess player’s demonstrated skills, development potential, work ethic, behavior and other factors as determined by RDMBA for accurate team placement. Player’s will be scored and ranked by evaluators based on their individual observed skills.

Procedure:

  • Skills criteria evaluator sheets for each division will be offered on the website, prior to evaluations, for players and parents to review the skills being assessed.

  • Players attend a minimum of two in-person evaluation sessions. Each session will be an assessment of different skills, player participation is highly recommended.

  • Every effort will be made to accommodate player attendance conflicts upon the disclosure of absence to the General Manager, however, accommodation is not guaranteed.

  • RDMBA will assign independent evaluators for all Performance, Competitive and Community team evaluations. Independent evaluators will be chosen by RDMBA who possess; baseball knowledge (experience and/or certification) for the level being evaluated, no conflict of interest with the RDMBA evaluation process and/or players being evaluated.

  • In the event RDMBA can not secure independent evaluators, every reasonable effort will be made to choose individuals with the same knowledge criteria as above with the least conflict of interest with RDMBA’s evaluation process and/or the players being evaluated.

  • RDMBA Roster Approval Committee reserves the right to consider; any skills assessed, past player evaluations, and coach feedback for players unable to attend all/no evaluations due to approved unavoidable circumstances.

  • Instructors will explain / demonstrate the drills in evaluations to ensure the skills are performed accurately and safely during evaluations. Coaching will be limited to player safety corrections only, to ensure the most accurate showcasing of each players ability and performance.

  • Parent/Player Code of Conduct must be followed with concerns or complaints regarding the Evaluation process. All matters of this nature will be managed appropriately as required by RDMBA.

ROSTER SELECTION POLICY

Effective: March 8th, 2021

______________________________________________________________________________

Policy: Roster selection will be conducted at the completion of evaluations. The roster selection criteria will guide roster selection decisions.

Procedure:
  • Roster selection criteria:
    • Player evaluation scores and individual ranking
    • Observed player behavior throughout evaluations
    • Player evaluations from prior years. Player evaluations are completed at the conclusion of each rep season by each team’s coaching staff and submitted to RDMBA. Players are analyzed on areas that are difficult to assess during evaluations such as; punctuality and attendance, game time maturity, attitude, the ability to battle back from adversity, work ethic, coachability and behavioral characteristics.
    • Team and coach strategy (roster size, reasonable balance of positional players)
    • Player projection and development

  • RDMBA Roster Approval Committee members, Divisional Director, and selected Head Coach will review and discuss the roster selection criteria. Team selections will then be finalized by consensus of the above individuals.
  • The Roster Approval Committee for each division is made up of RDMBA’s President, General Manager, VP of Baseball Operations, Division Director, and the evaluators responsible for the player’s tabulated scores. Any conflicts of interest will be replaced with an appropriate member of the RDMBA Board of Directors.
  • Upon completion of roster selection, team selections will be posted to the RDMBA website, and can be found under each divisional tab.
  • Parent/Player Code of Conduct must be followed with concerns or complaints regarding the Roster Selection process. All matters of this nature will be managed appropriately as required by RDMBA.
