Midget AA1 Head Coach Bio
RDMBA would like to announce that Paul Claerhout has been selected as the 2018 Head Coach of the Red Deer Midget AA1 Sports World Braves!
Paul is a product of RDMBA and has played baseball in Red Deer since the age of 8. He began playing with the Red Deer Riggers at the age of 17 as a catcher and continued to play with their club for 15 seasons. During his time with the Riggers they won 9 Provincial Championships and 1 National Championship. Paul received the honor of being named top Catcher at the National Championships in 1997 and again in 2001. A little fun fact about Paul...he holds the All-Time Career Sunburst League record for being hit by a pitch!
Being a player wasn't the only role Paul filled with the Riggers; he was also the President of their association, the General Manager and an Assistant Coach from 1995 - 2000.
Paul's passion for the game of baseball didn't end at being a player, he has spend many years coaching and being involved with both RDMBA as well as Baseball Alberta. He coached Rookie in 2008 and 2012, was Assistant Coach of Mosquito AA1 in 2011, 2012 and 2014, Assistant Coach of Pee Wee AAA in 2014 and Head Coach of Pee Wee AAA in 2015. Paul continued to coach in 2016 and 2017 as Head Coach of Mosquito AA1 as well as Assistant Coach of Bantam AAA. As the Head Coach of Mosquito AA1 in 2017 he lead his team to a gold medal win in the Tier I Provincial Championships. Paul was a member of the RDMBA Board of Director's from 2012-2017 as the Technical Director, he is currently the Zone 4 Director for Baseball Alberta and an NCCP Coach Evaluator for Baseball Canada.
